I'm a qualified psychological therapist, specialising in cognitive behavioural therapies, including dialectical behaviour therapy skills used in the treatment of a range of mental health disorders such as anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, eating disorders and other trauma responses. I currently work predominantly with young people aged 11-25 at the Priory Wellbeing Centre in Oxford, as well as independently through GPS.
I also enjoy working with parents as well as delivering school-based interventions and providing consultancy to youth workers to support young people in developing adaptations to thrive in their varying environments.
I spent 5 years overseeing and delivering the pastoral care of the young people in congregation and local area, responsible for the overall running of the ministry, project management and budget-keeping, the training and development of the youth team and cultivating community links with adolescent services in Birmingham. I spent part of role based in a school delivering psychological therapy to young people aged 11-16.
I trained on a BABCP accreditable course at University of Birmingham, working within Birmingham Healthy Minds (3 years, part time). This included developing in my skills in delivering 1:1 cognitive behavioural therapy, as well as third wave approaches and adaptations, assessing the presentation and severity of difficulties experienced by the service users, and the suitability of the service for best supporting them, evaluating and managing risk, and liaising with my supervisor and at times the wider team for ensuring that the patient receives optimal and ethical care.
I was also involved in the planning and delivery of psycho-educational workshops designed to socialise patients to the CBT model, and seen these to be meaningful and effective for treatment mental health problems.
My administrative duties included keeping clear and complete records of treatment, communicating with 3rd party organisations and ensuring that is done in accordance with the information governance and confidentiality standards of the service.
Offered 1:1 and group support as a classroom teaching assistant. I worked closely with young people aged 13-16 with SEND, additional support needs, regularly managing challenging behaviour. In addition, I ran a mental health support service with slots for teachers to refer pupils to during lesson hours if this might benefit the student.
I have also worked in paid and voluntary roles, as a support worker, psychological assistant roles, tutor and mentor within a variety of settings.
